STATEMENT

Photography is like a doorway to Heaven for me. Even at a young age I have
always enjoyed taking pictures. I immediately knew I liked taking pictures of people, animals and nature, creating portraits. I was always the one behind the camera not in front of it. There is wonderful joy and gratification in the idea of creating memories for my family and friends that they can treasure for a lifetime. I especially like taking pictures of families, couples, and children. However, I like capturing pictures of special occasions also; Engagements, Weddings, Maternity and Newborns. It is a pleasure to capture the bond between family members, the love between two people, and the excitement of children.

Taking these pictures makes me feel like I am getting to know these families and
the bond they share. I want my pictures to touch hearts. I want my audience to see the bond between these people in each picture, whether it’s love, silliness and joy, or fall in love with nature. I don’t want them to see the picture for what it is, I want them to see it for what it isn’t also. I want to portray a story or withhold a secret. When I capture a wedding picture, I want the bride to feel as if I captured the wedding she wanted (not her mother). When I photograph children, I want them acting as children, not perfect (frozen) little models.

My family has influenced me to take pictures, by encouraging meto keep up the good work. The photography classes I’m taking right now are influencing me by helping me learn more than what I already know.  My instructors and classmates critique me in positives ways to help me grow as an artist. An artist, me?  I’ve never really thought of myself as an artist. Honestly, I just really enjoy taking pictures. With photography you can explore different images. Every person that looks at a picture will view it differently. The reality is, you see what you want to see.
